About Me
star icon I’m a Technology Business Analyst who has worked in e-commerce startups, consumer products, insurance, and currently shipping. I’ve also started some web based ventures, all small, and still waiting to implement my first utterly brilliant idea that will set me on the path to financial freedom.

In 2006 I read a business, wealth oriented, or self help book a week for the entire year. Since then I’ve slowed the pace a little, but I’m still reading some great stuff, and I’d love to share my favorites with you (and hear about yours).

To put my book reviews in perspective, I like to read books that are well written and enjoyable to read, and I am of the belief that if a book contains one or two really good ‘nuggets’ of information that I can apply to my world and/or businesses, it was worth it.

Here are some points I think you should know about my reviews:
  • If a book is slow or boring, I won’t finish it (and I definitely won’t recommend it or bother reviewing it).

  • I will always try to give some sort of indication of what type of people might enjoy or get value from the book I’m reviewing.

  • I sometimes read reviews that trash books because they are repetitive or ‘just’ rehashing something that can be found in another book. While I can’t stand mindless repetition, I’m of the belief that:

    1. You don’t really learn something by reading it once. Interesting and creative repetition for the purpose of consolidating learning is ok by me, and,

    2. There aren’t many business and wealth books out there that contain ‘new’ stuff in them, but reading a different author’s take on a subject can both remind you about what you’ve learned before (and possibly forgot, or at least forgot to implement in your own world) and provide a greater depth of understanding.

While it’s ok to want to glean just the bare essentials of a book, I think the value is in the stories that provide context for the information, and ultimately help you remember, and implement, its lessons.

  • I put books I like into two categories, those ‘essentials’ that I think everyone should read, and those that I think are good supplementary material to help keep your mind stimulated and focused on generating ideas that will take your business ventures to the next level.

I hope you find my reviews useful!
Experience
star icon I have started a couple of small ventures that have taught me a lot. Still waiting to hit the 'big one', but working on it.
Personal Goals
star icon Financial freedom that will allow me to travel, spend time with my friends in the US, and with my family in Australia (I moved to the US in 1999), and allow me to stay home and raise my children (none yet, but one day...) if I choose to do so.
